We hope you will join us at 4:00 on Saturday, April 3rd, for a tasting of the superb wines of Kumeu River with the proprietor, Paul Brajkovich. I have long considered Kumeu River to be one of New Zealand’s top wineries (perhaps THE top) and am excited to share them with you. Kumeu River was founded by Paul’s parents in 1944, making it more than 75 years old! Their wines will change your perception of what New Zealand winemaking is all about.

Saturday’s tasting will include, in this order:
2019 Kumeu River Village Chardonnay, $19.99
The perfect aperitif Chardonnay, this wine also goes very well with all types of seafood. Fermented 45% in old French oak barriques and 55% in stainless steel tanks, there is very little oak influence on either nose or palate. This allows the vibrant fruit to show through beautifully with lively lime and lemon aromas and a flinty, mineral edginess with hints of fig and white peach.

2017 Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay, $32.99
All barrel-fermented, with 20% new oak, the 2017 Estate Chardonnay is a stellar effort. Smoky, nutty hints of roasted cashews appear on the nose, adding depth and richness to notes of peach and pineapple. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it’s richly textured — something of a cross between creamy and sherbet-like – coming to a long, luscious finish. It sure is delicious.

2018 Kumeu River Village Pinot Noir, $19.99
The 2018 Village Pinot Noir is made entirely from Hawke’s Bay fruit. It’s light ruby in color with pretty floral notes alongside hints of raspberry and strawberry. Light to medium in body, it’s a silky-textured, red-fruited charmer with lovely length.
